Deputy Chief of Mission


Mr. Smith arrived in Bangui in August 2009 as Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy.  After joining the Foreign Service in 1999, he served in Panama, Barbados, Nicaragua, and Washington, D.C.   A political officer by specialty, Mr. Smith has experience in human rights reporting, political-military affairs, and elections in emerging democracies.

 

Mr. Smith is married to Kelley Crowder Smith and has three children.  He speaks French and Spanish.
